If you are nervous or anxious and you can't identify the reason you feel that way it's likely that there is a reason and you just aren't aware of it. Therapy or counseling can be very helpful in identifying the cause or causes of anxiety. Often, once they are identified they can be addressed and eliminated.

Getting nervous for no reason can happen for, actually, quite a few reasons. It could be because of lack of sleep, the occurrence of a panic attack, or the presence of an anxiety disorder.

Reason and Emotion are like roommates: they often exert an effect on each other, but they each have separate lives. Struggling to assign "Meaning" to a "Feeling" can be counter-productive. A feeling is the brain assessing pattern recognitions; it does not mean that something is just like what came before, but that there are indicators that something MIGHT be like what has been experienced before (or something brought up a Memory of what has happened before). It is a little system short-cut to alert us to our environment. Sadly, these systems can be damaged (Brain Damage), by stress, or toxins, or traumas. So it is important to assess the appropriate nature of any emotion before hastening to act upon it! There are ways the body has of eliminating the chemicals which produce that feeling of 'nervousness', or 'anxiety', or even "PANIC". Given appropriate guidance by the Wise Mind, the body can eliminate these 'chemical dumps' within 15 minutes, if they are not re-triggered. Here are a few of the techniques i have learned to calm my body down: First: Breathe, slowly and mindfully; Then: Count to help your brain be distracted from the feelings; Next: Match your count to your breath, and gradually slow them both down (this will slow the heartbeat, too); Finally: Find an attractive distraction (this might be staring at a picture on the wall, or reading something simple, or even smelling a favorite essential oil; but it works best if it uses one of the 5 senses). Nervousness in a Performance Situation (giving a presentation, for example) is quite common. It helps to stimulate our attentiveness and responsiveness. in the right situation, a little bit is a good thing. It is mostly when it is interfering with that goal of High Performance that we need to Practice Practice Practice controlling it.

I definitely have experience with this one. :( I've found in my experiences, if I get nervous for no real reason, it's because my mind isn't grounded in the present moment. I find if I take time to keep a mental inventory of things I see, smell, taste (if applicable), touch, or hear, and really focus in on it, a lot of that nervousness tends to dissipate even a little. It does depend how intense the wave of nervousness is, though. I think grounding can be a powerful, awesome tool to help with feelings of random nervousness. I hope this helps a little bit and maybe helps explain from my own experience.

Getting nervous for no reason means that your body has a natural instinct to be nervous when something in the enviorment is triggering a source of fear. Ive delt with many forms of anxiety and I’m treated with medications to control the anxiety. Many times I will physically respond with nervousness but mentally I am not nervous. I go to a highly academic based school, so I deal with many school stressors. From this I also deal with lots of social stressors. I often get the comment that I freak out for no reason, but I’m reality it’s something I can’t control. It’s a natural human instinct that we have developed in reaction to real or fake anxiety.

it sounds like anxiety. ask yourself, when you feel nervous, what's going through your mind? do you worry something bad will happen? do you find it hard to concentrate on anything else when you're nervous? are your thoughts racing? do you feel tired or restless? do you feel irritable or maybe afraid? and is it ever accompanied by physical symptoms like nausea, sweating, shaking, heart racing, dry mouth, shortness of breath, and general panic or kind of "fight or flight" reponse? if the answer is yes to more than a few of these questions, i'd recommend visiting a doctor or professional and asking them about it. otherwise, are there any things in your life that are stressing you out right now that may be subconsciously worrying you? that could be the cause, too.
