social anxiety isn't limited to any physical factors such as age, gender, etc...it can affect anybody, but given our social structures there is probably a higher possibility of it occurring in age groups in which we are more exposed to forced social interaction and peer pressure, such as in teenagers attending high school. people are also usually more impressionable and insecure during their younger ages and it is said that the older we get the less we care about what people think, therefore making the social anxiety more likely to lessen with age. but it truly depends on each individual and it has no real outside limit on when it can occur or when it can lessen.

It can occur across the lifespan at any age, regardless of gender. No one knows why, it just is. It's essentially complex mixture of environmental stressors and genetic predispositions. It helps to get an early diagnosis from a young age, so that your family can support you and it can become manageable.
Sometimes adverse childhood events can help shape social anxiety into adulthood and it manifests in different ways for different people. Other times, young children can get it as well and they manage to handle it over the years.
For some people it lessens across the lfe span. For others, it can get worse. It really pans down to the life you have had, the supports in your life, childhood trauma, ongoing trauma, etc.

I think social anxiety can exist in any age group in my opinion. I was afraid of speaking to strangers and fearing judgement from others since I was in primary school age. I found the feeling of social anxiousness amplifies as I grow into puberty. Admittedly teenagers and young adults may perhaps be the period of having a stronger experience compared to during childhood. The increasing ability to express eloquently with language as we grow may also be taken into account where social anxiety may perhaps be the most talked about topic which increases general awareness in particular age groups.
