Yes, it can. Both anxiety and depression (each on their own) can cause appetite changes (both increase and decrease it), which is the main cause of weight loss when experiencing those issues. Anxiety suggests an increased level of stress hormones in your body, which can manifest into uncomfortable physical sensations, such as feeling "a lump" in your throat, light nausea, or a sense of fullness in the stomach; all of these are likely to defer you from ingesting food. One of the hallmarks of depression is anhedonia (or the inability to feel pleasure from otherwise pleasurable activities), which can quite literally "take all the taste out" of your favourite chocolate bar. In this case, it does not matter as much what the causes and contributing factors to the anxiety and depression may be, what matters is how these conditions affect your physical body and psychology.

Certainly. Someone who is experiencing anxiety and depression may find their appetite has decreased and that they no longer desire to eat or have no energy to make meals. Weight change (loss or gain) is a common symptom of depression.

Anxiety and depression affect people in different ways, but yes, it can cause weight loss, as well as weight gain, due to the sufferers neglecting themselves by either under-eating/starving or over-eating. Please remember to eat. When you're not physically healthy, it makes it harder for you to feel mentally healthy.

Yes. A lot of people abstain from eating when they are upset or agitated. It's okay to be sad for a little while, but don't let the sadness or loss of confidence lead to an unhealthy reaction like and eating disorder. Remember that you are still and amazing individual with or without this person, and taking care of yourself will be much more beneficial to you in the long run.

A break up can cause both anxiety and depression, either of which might quickly result in a loss of appetite (caloric intake). Over time, given consistent physical activity (caloric output), this can lead to dramatic and unhealthy weight loss.

Depression and anxiety from any cause is known to sometimes result in weight loss. Decreased appetite is a symptom of both depression and anxiety (though increased appetite is also seen in depression), and can result in not eating enough without even realizing it, resulting in weight loss.
