Addiction give the illusion of "feeling good" for a while. Many times individuals use substances to mask their feelings, or suppress them as they do not want to feel what they are feeling. When the feelings begin to come back the individuals can sometimes start to feel what we call the cycle of addiction/shame. This is basically the individual uses substances to supress the feelings, then the "high" wears off, the same and guilt of using kicks back in, then the using starts again. Addiction is not a peer pressure thing, as addiction is not a choice, it is a disease. Its actualy the only disease that your brain is actively trying to kill you. One could be peer pressured into trying a substance, but addiction is a whole other thing from peer pressure.
