That is difficult to answer because it is very personal. From my experience, if you are a male, there is this thing called a D2 Allele Gene inside humans. I call it the Alcoholic Gene, if this is passed down from father to son, once the son drinks a little, he is easily hooked. No this does not mean it always happens, it is closely related though. Also, I would step away from the word addiction and stick with bonding. Humans bond, simple as that. When we are in "certain" environments, we bond to what is close to us or available. At a party, whats there: drinking, drugs, sex, laughter, fun, etc. At home, what is there: drinking, laughter, fun, etc. Whatever is available in the environment, we just know how to bond to well with it. How do we break it? NEW ENVIRONMENT. Cheers.

Alcoholism is a disease, it is not something we get over quickly or quietly. You can stop but it takes admittance, community, meetings, and patience as you live one day at a time or maybe one moment. Drinking has always been there for you as the song says and it will always be there waiting to take you back as its' hostage. It poisons your body and deludes your mind. I am here for you friend should you need a reminder of your support to a sober life. Cheers with a cup of hot cocoa. You are welcome at my fire-pit to share your story, or distract you from temptations. One moment at a time.

Some people use alcohol in order to change the way they feel and act, particularly in social situations. In my own experience, I found that drinking made me feel less anxious in public, and also that it seemed to make everything "more fun". Unfortunately, as anyone who has had problems with drinking can tell you, it becomes a slippery slope, wherein you eventually begin to rely on alcohol to make you this "party" person. More often than not, it becomes a vehicle you rely on, and the process of drinking alcohol becomes about "getting drunk" rather than enjoying the drink in moderation. It's important to look at the reasons you feel inadequate without intoxication if this is the case. For some people (including myself), the solution is to stop drinking altogether.
