The answer to that question can be very complex, or it can be very simple, depending on your perspective. To provide a useful answer, I would have to ask more questions. Here are a few: Do you want to stop using drugs? Do you really want to be like everyone else, and what do you think that would be like? What drugs are you using, and for how long? Do you believe that you are addicted to these drugs? Do you believe that you can stop using them if you truly desire to stop? Some of these questions may seem silly or obvious, but really do think about them. The most important thing to know, though, is this: You are strong, and you can attain anything you desire in this world---but it is all up to you. Do not fear this responsibility, for you are strong enough to handle it!

Because for some people drugs bring a sense of relaxation and familiarity, they perhaps have come to rely on them to face day to day life. Once the habit is fully formed it can seem impossible regardless of willpower.

You are like everyone else. We all deal with something we don't like about ourselves. Using drugs is a crutch for something deeper and then in turns into an addiction. Getting help for both the addiction and the deep seeded emotions, feelings or thoughts that started the drug use will help break the habit.

Can't is a very strong word. Why are you choosing to continue the use of drugs? An addictive personality will acknowledge the pleasure inherent in current use before addressing such underlying issues. You are never better are something while drunk or high.

Addiction are never an easy way to live. It is serious and you should not be so hard on yourself. The first steps are reaching out and knowing you have a problem. I commend you for that. That is not an easy thing to do and you should be proud of coming to 7 Cups to talk about your feelings. Knowing you are not alone is essential in receiving the encouragement to face your addiction. It is not easy, but being here is such a huge step. I know now that you are stronger then you think and able to get better. You are normal you just hit a speed bump in your life. Getting back on your feet is great, but feeling you are not normal must be extremely hard on you.

Addiction is a very powerful illness and is considered to be a disease/mental health disorder. I know because I myself had struggled with it for 30 years. I wanted to want to stop but could not. I had to find help. I had to ask for help and then be willing to accept that help and do what was suggested of me. One of those suggestions was to go to treatment. Which I did. Then I got involved in a program of recovery which connected me with an entire community of people just like me which provided the support necessary for me to recover. Today I have over 5.5 years in recovery from substance use disorder and am free from the pain and misery of addiction.
