The word replace sounds so uninteresting - rather see it as making a decision, one can can have fun doing almost anything - ridding a bike , laughing with children, going for a coffee or drinking a soda with really good friends and family! Fun is about the company your with and your willingness to have it ! If it's not worth it then think to yourself: why isn't it worth it? And what would you classify as fun ?

I've found that people are accepting of my abstinence, and I can have just as much fun with a coca cola in my hand; fun is what you bring with you!

Why not simply replace the essence of the social aspects as closely as possible such as the friends the gatherings. This can be done with a good old fashion barbecue or other themes which can include music and dancing, tea, coffee, I believe the social aspect can be replaced in a healthy fashion if one applies their creativity.

You don't need to be drinking alcohol to feel you're in a social environment. Whether it is changing the events that you are connected with so that is it easier to stay sober, or if you hold onto self-control in drinking-situations. Security of sobriety is important to some, but you shouldn't feel as if you need to stay home all the time to achieve that. You have options.

Ongoing sobriety is the most important thing. In the first few moths keeping away from alcohol as much as possible is best. How ever as you gain strength in time you will find you will be able to attend social outtings. But to have some one aware of your situation and ensure you stay with soft drink or water is a good plan.
