Taking drugs and alcohol are both ways to change what we feel and what we see, however , these feelings are temporary and the results can be devastating for health, relationships with work and the way we behave when high is very very rarely a positive. Why are you escaping your feelings? What are you running from?or what are you trying to feel. What stops you feeling real emotions, are they painful and why ! In order to stop this pretend high you need to find a real high but firstly you should seek counselling and seeking out the root of the problem . A lot of people go to rehab for support ,to detox in order to have a clear mind and a healthy view of the future. In time you will find a natural high as well as finding real friends not drinking buddies and an acceptance of who you are .

Finding a new hobby to help distract you from the craving of alcohol and drugs could be really useful. Reaching out for support from friends, family, your gp or a support group could also be very beneficial towards helping you give up these habits. Goal setting has also been something that many have found makes quitting alcohol and drugs easier, but remember to only set yourself realistic goals. When these goals are reached you could treat yourself with a shopping trip, food out or whatever is it you may fancy. The best course of action for somebody with a drinking or drug problem is to receive professional help.

Quitting drinking or drugs can be really hard on your own. You might want to talk to a doctor, counselor, or hotline in your area to see what your resources are. Some common resources are 12 step fellowships such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, or non-12 step support groups such as SMART Recovery. These groups are free and provide you with support from others dealing with similar issues. It also might be worthwhile to look into an outpatient, inpatient, or residential treatment program, depending on the severity of your substance abuse.

Do you seriously want to stop drinking or taking drugs? If so, go to a local AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meeting for the next 90 days! Does that sound like a lot?...as compared to the alternative? They have the best track records in history! If there's no such group near you then join one online. Best wishes!

Your first step might be to see your doctor, contact a support group or friends and family. While some people can stop drinking or taking drugs on their own, others need medical help. Is important to know that you need to heal your soul before heal your physical body. Remember that you are not alone.

The most important step towards recovery is outreach. This can be intimidating at first. First, I would recommend reaching out to someone you know and trust. If you are not comfortable doing this, research localized help in the area you are living. Support will likely be the biggest game changer in your recovery. Right now, it may seem like there is no support or there is nobody you can trust. I promise you, there is. Again, just look for localized help and they will be able to direct you to resources in your area to help get you on the path to recovery. I hope this helps.
