There are a variety of medications and behavioral modification techniques that can be used to help treat ADHD. There are many benefits to finding a licensed therapist that can help you learn the skills and techniques that will benefit your lifestyle. Knowing if the treatments are working ultimately comes down to your quality of life. Do you feel you are managing you time well? Are you able to maintain healthy relationships with friends and family? Do you notice that your personal performance on school or work seem to be improving? Adversely (especially if taking medication only) if you are experiencing anxiety, extreme lack of appetite, nausea, dependency on medication, insomnia, or physical ailments, you should consult your therapist to figure out an alternate means of treatment. Speaking from personal experience, behavioral modification techniques (through therapy) have helped immensely in managing ADHD.
