It is honestly between you and your physician. I can relay experience that points to some being placed on medication as adults. Keep in mind that some are FDA approved for other illnesses as well as attention related disorders.

Yes you can start medication as an adult. I didn't start until I was 24 though I wish I would have started sooner. It's never too late to start though it is best to consult your doctor to see if it's a good treatment option for you.

Medicine for treatment of ADD/ADHD can begin in adulthood as well as childhood. If symptoms are confirmed by a qualified health professional and it is determined that medicine would be beneficial, it would be appropriate to try a prescription as an adult.

You can start on medication as soon as the diagnosis has been made. Whether you are an adult or a child it simply does not matter at all! :) As soon as the Add/Adhd is apparent professionals take the next step with the person to achieve whats best for them. However, from personal experience, it took a long time for professionals to diagnose me with ADHD, as many thought as an adult i was simply after the medication (not true) Eventually I found a professional who believed me and made the right tests to officially diagnose me. This was the most appropriate thing to do. I Believe there is no difference when you start taking the medication. Also makes a big difference in many peoples lives too! :)
