Thinking about, or counting, calories, can be (while coupled with the maintenance of a balanced diet) a very useful strategy for losing, gaining, or maintaining weight depending on necessity. For example, if someone is overweight, it may pay off to be particularly careful about monitoring the caloric content of what they might eat in a day, assuming they're also aware of their unique and individual daily calorie requirements (which can vary considerably from person to person). So, in that sense, counting calories is a common and useful weight-control method practiced my millions the world over. However, when counting calories (or, in truth, any behavior) becomes motivated by obsessive thinking and compulsions (if one suffers from OCD, for example), it can be classed indeed as unhealthy since it only perpetuates anxiety-inducing intrusive thoughts and could potentially endanger your health (generally by leading to dramatic and unnecessary weight loss - this is also how, in part, some sufferers of anorexia nervosa develop their conditions). So, you're certainly not a freak or pariah if you count calories based on either motivation, but it could pay off to assess why you're really doing it - as part of a sensible, controlled diet plan, or because you're obsessed about weight control and are engaging in compulsive behavior?

Well, the way I see it, personally, is that some people think about calories, and some don't, and either way nobody's a freak in my opinion... do what you do is do, what you think is best for you, that's what I think... And know that if you want to, you can reach out to other people for support in this, or anything you need, and of course 7 cups is always here for you, too!
you are not a freak. Alot of people think about calories; some in positive ways(healthy living ect) some people is disordered ways.
Depended on what food you are counting your calories on! Have you seen That Sugar Film? Calories use to be factor years ago but apparently most low calorie and low fat food have a high sugar content which is worse re calorie & weight. You could eat the same amount of calories from food such as bacon and eggs etc if the fat is cut off compared to white toast or muesli which has a high sugar content and empty calories making your body crave more food and sugar. There is also a book out re the movie & calories and how studies have proved why calorie counting with the wrong food doesn't work. 1 glass of champagne is equivalent to a Tim Tam - low calories in champagne but high in carbs which is sugar. Fruit juice is VERY HIGH in calories vs eating the actual fruit as the fibre changes the calories. See the movie, it's Australian and it was an eye opener for me as cancer thrives in a acid environment and sugar creates that in the body especially fake sugar which throws your insulin level off.
I think about calories everydaay ! like i keep on track the calories of the things that i eat in the morning, for lunch and evening !
It's normal to think about calories! Many people worry about them. It's common, and sometimes even necessary to think about calories when we are trying to lose or gain weight, or when we have some type of health problem. If you find that you tend to obsess over calories (ex: you can't eat something without counting them, you can't go over or below a certain amount, calorie-counting causes you anxiety, you feel like you need to have absolute control over the calories you eat, etc), this can be very unhealthy. It is possible that you have an eating disorder, in which case it would be common for you to think about calories a lot. Remember that your body needs them! Make sure that you are giving your body what it needs to function. If you think this might be getting a little bit out of control, make sure you talk to someone about it. You shouldn't have to deal with this alone.

Other people do think about calories, and it's an unfortunate state of our society. The diet industry is a 6 billion dollar industry, so there are a lot of people with calories on the brain. But would this 6 billion dollar industry still be making money if they weren't selling you lies?
No lots of people everywhere in the world over think about calories but it only becomes a problem when you are risking your health or its affecting your day to day life
I think there is a healthy awareness of the amount of calories that go in your body. At some point, counting calories becomes an obsession and is unhealthy. However, counting calories in an unhealthy manner does not make you a freak, but simply means the awareness of calories consumed needs to be lessened. If the obsession is severe, professional help may be needed.
Of course! My mom counts calories on a daily basis, and she's developed a healthy diet by counting and limiting calories depending on her weight or how many she consumed the previous day.
ALOT of people think about calories - count calories- keep track of how many calories they eat in a day.

You are definitely not a freak. Many people think about calories, for example, dieters, people who are trying to gain weight, eating disordered people, doctors, athletes, etc.
Thinking about your calories is a good thing to an extent, and a lot of people do. But if you're focusing very intently on your calorie intake then that can be very unhealthy, and sometimes dangerous.
