It is a thing, but sadly normally doesn't get diagnosed before the two year mark. You could always possibly have something else, though, you can check in with a doctor or therapist for a diagnosis!

High functioning depression can be a thing, during one you may feel extremely sad and lose faith in certain activities that mild or moderate depression stage of people normally face.

Depression comes in so many forms. For some people it’s all consuming and it feels immobilizing. For others it’s a weight that they shoulder day in and day out. You can have depression and still be going through the motions of every day life. It can seem like to everyone else, even close family members, that you’re fine. That’s why it’s such a tricky disease. Depression is unique to everyone. Using the tools that 7cups provides you can hone in what depression means to you. I hear you say that you are a high functioning person who has a mood or feelings of depression, is that correct? From what I've learnt it is certainly possible that a person can be high functioning, and also feel down or depressed. Higher functioning individuals have a greater awareness of what is happening and it is thought that is a contributing factor to depression. When diagnosing depression or deciding it is something else there are standards for a successful plan. Firstly, be evaluated by a mental health professional to determine the best course of action. You know yourself best and will need to answer questions to determine the next step.
