I have been through a lot in life too, which helps me to be able to empathize with situations, thoughts and feelings that we have. Sometimes, it's not easy just being human.

I like to find things that make me happy, everything from the little bits of warmth the sun provides on my skin to the smile someone gets when you open a door for them. Life can become overwhelming and when I can't get out of a funk I like to try and help others smile.
Creating a small list of nice thing can also be rather helpful

Distract yourself with something that you love doing. Another thing you can do is write out your feelings.
When I was a small child and anxious I would start counting in my head. I didn't realize at the time that it was a sort of meditative practice. Today I'm more likely to put on music or look for something pleasant to focus on.
Things that makes us sad and anxious will always be there. It's up to us to get rid of it although it is never easy. Trying is limitless and faith can take us as high as we want to go. Keep doing the things we like. Never let those negativity take control of us. Happiness exist for a reason. We can only reach it if we starve sadness and anxiousness to death. Do what we like, live how we want and be the person who we are always meant to be.
My experience has been that when I talk about how I feel and get the thoughts out of my head, the things that make me feel anxious or depressed seem smaller and easier for me to work with. I also find doing something to help someone else helps me change my focus and feel better. This my experience, not trying to get a pat answer to your problems.
Involve yourself in a healthy activity.Gym,read books,bake,don't sit idle,talk to old friends/family

Talking to someone is a great way to get whatever is making you sad or anxious off your chest, they can also try to offer suggestions if they are someone close to you!
It always helps me to get involved in something else that interests me. Read a book or watch a great movie that you can become totally immersed in. Take a break from your problems. Talk to a friend and listen to their problems. Do something challenging that takes all your concentration. All your problems won’t go away but you will benefit from getting away from them for awhile.
i have taken up painting by numbers which has really helped . Taking up a hobby can really help a person to declutter your thoughts and make you feel at peace. As we are talking about this matter, I also like to get in touch with nature and listen to environmental sounds. just to to step back and do these things can have a really good effect on you mentally. its nice to just to feel calm and not feel that you are out of control but to be able to control your thoughts can just as theaptic.
