What are the positive and negative aspects as using methadone as a treatment from addictive opiate use?

the positive aspect, is that it blocks the withdrawl symptoms and may allow you to preform daily functions while going through recovery. the negative is that for some people, it is harder to quit than the opiate they were using to begin with. I suppose it is good harm reduction though.

Addiction to Methadone instead of opiates and possible servere health side effects. But the success in alleviating an opiate addiction is high.

Methadone will ease the opiate withdrawal for 24 to 36 hours, decreasing the chance of relapse. There may be side affects from the methadone, but if it's working to keep you off the opiates, and you can tolerate the side affects. You should probably continue with methadone treatment. You may have to take the methadone for a very long time, this is something you will need to discuss with a treatment specialist.
