Brian Smothers is a compassionate and skilled Clinical Psychologist who believes that challenges often arise within relational contexts, shaped by both early relationships and current interactions. His treatment approach is goal-focused, addressing the immediate distress that brings individuals to therapy while exploring how present circumstances are influenced by past experiences. Emphasizing the significance of a safe and professional therapeutic relationship, Brian views the connection between therapist and client as central to the healing process. Through continuous dialogue and shared curiosity, he helps clients deepen their understanding of their current challenges and future aspirations. Brian specializes in working with adults, couples, and families, and he also provides consultation and supervision to fellow professionals. As a faculty member at the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology, he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of therapists. Notably, he was a Fellow of the American Psychoanalytic Association during 2013-2014 and a Teaching Fellow in 2014-2015.
