Located in Ferndale, WA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to training and empowering passionate individuals to become effective advocates for a food system that champions social, environmental, and economic justice. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this immersive program offers organic food system education without tuition fees, ensuring accessibility for all individuals. Fellows engage in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm, including growing diversified crops, leading innovative health care educational sessions, and maintaining vibrant community and school gardens. They also play a vital role in teaching food and ecological literacy, supporting farmers markets, and developing distribution channels for enhanced access to healthy foods. Throughout their six-month residency, selected Fellows participate actively in their communities, applying their training with local non-profits during their Community Action Year. Applications are accepted until March, with experiences typically running from May to October each year, fostering both personal growth and positive community impact.
