Dr. Shirley Joann Smart is a licensed psychologist with a rich educational background, holding a master's degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, attained in 2000. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology, focusing on Counseling, in 2004. In 2018, she further broadened her expertise by earning a master's degree in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Dr. Smart honed her skills during her post-doctoral fellowship at the St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, specifically at the Anxiety Disorder Center, where she gained extensive training in treating OCD, phobias, and various other anxiety disorders. Her professional journey includes significant experience in private practice, where she addressed a range of psychological disorders and mental health issues, as well as dedicated work with Marines and Navy personnel on military bases tackling PTSD and deployment-related mental health concerns. Furthermore, she has worked with inmates in the prison system and assisted victims of domestic violence and abuse. Dr. Smart's primary focus areas include anxiety, depression, stress and anger management, trauma, grief, and adjustment issues. She believes that fostering hope is vital in patient care and is committed to empowering her clients to find strength and resilience in facing life's challenges.
