The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Lexington, VA, is dedicated to empowering individuals to become educators and advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Hosted by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a unique and accessible opportunity through a no-tuition model, ensuring that aspiring activists can focus on learning and growth. Over six months, selected Fellows engage in hands-on, experiential education at the Allegheny Farm, where they actively participate in diverse agricultural practices alongside community partners. The program emphasizes organic food system education, supporting initiatives such as crop distribution, school gardens, and innovative health care education. Additionally, Fellows will contribute to farmers markets, enhance access to healthy food, and support community food coalitions. Following their immersive experience, Fellows will spend a Community Action Year, applying their knowledge in collaboration with regional non-profits, allowing them to directly impact their local food systems. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship experience running from May to October each year.
