The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Weslaco, TX, is dedicated to empowering individuals to become advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. This transformative program, part of the Allegheny Mountain Institute, offers comprehensive training in organic food systems at the scenic Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, fully committing to accessibility by eliminating tuition fees. Fellows engage in hands-on learning, focusing on diverse agricultural practices, food equity, and community health initiatives. Participants collaborate with partners to cultivate crops, run farmers markets, and establish school gardens, ultimately gaining the skills to promote food and ecological literacy within their communities. Following a six-month intensive training period, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, where they implement their knowledge in partnership with local non-profits to drive meaningful change. Applications are welcomed until March each year, with experiences taking place from May to October.
