The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Newport, TN, empowers individuals to become passionate advocates for a just food system that champions social, environmental, and economic equity. Through a comprehensive, tuition-free program at the Allegheny Farm, participants engage in hands-on organic food system education and develop vital skills to support community-driven initiatives. Fellows are involved in growing and distributing diverse crops, leading educational sessions on innovative healthcare practices, maintaining gardens in schools and local communities, and teaching food and ecological literacy. They also play a crucial role in fostering farmers markets and improving access to healthy foods through distribution channels and community food coalitions. Selected individuals embark on an immersive six-month residential experience, followed by a Community Action Year, where they apply their learning in collaboration with regional nonprofit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the Fellowship running from May to October, making it a unique opportunity for those dedicated to sustainable food practices and community empowerment.
