Located in Scranton, PA, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship at the Allegheny Mountain Institute empowers individuals to become champions of a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. Offering accessible, tuition-free educational experiences, this fellowship combines hands-on organic food system training with community-based initiatives. Fellows engage in diverse agricultural practices, from cultivating crops on market-style farms to leading educational sessions that promote health and wellness. Participants also work to enhance community food security through school gardens, support for farmers markets, and developing effective distribution channels for healthy food access. Over a transformative six-month residency at the Allegheny Farm, followed by a Community Action Year, fellows partner with regional non-profits to apply their skills while mentoring future leaders. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship program running from May through October each year.
