The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Reading, PA, is a transformative program designed to train and empower individuals to be champions of a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers tuition-free training to ensure broad accessibility. Participants engage in hands-on education in organic food systems, working closely with community partners to cultivate diversified crops, implement innovative health care education, maintain community gardens, and enhance food literacy in schools. Fellows also play pivotal roles in supporting local farmers markets and developing strategies to improve access to healthy foods. After an immersive six-month residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus, fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their skills and knowledge. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
