The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Waxhaw, NC, offers a transformative opportunity for individuals passionate about creating equitable food systems. This program, hosted by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, empowers Fellows to become effective educators and advocates for sustainable food practices that prioritize social, environmental, and economic justice. Participants engage in comprehensive organic food system education, working alongside current and future partners to cultivate diverse crops on a market-style farm, implement innovative health education sessions, and manage community or school gardens. Through hands-on experience, they enhance food and ecological literacy while supporting farmers markets and developing vital distribution channels for healthy food access. Over a six-month immersive training at the beautiful Allegheny Farm Campus, followed by a Community Action Year partnering with local non-profits, Fellows are equipped to make a lasting impact in their communities, promoting food assistance and ecological stewardship.
