Dr. Gwendolyn Keith Newsome is a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC-S) with a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and a Master’s degree in counseling from UNC-Greensboro. Her extensive clinical training includes an impactful internship at the Veterans Administration, where she provided individual, group, and couples counseling at the Raleigh Vet Center. Passionate about serving the community, Dr. Newsome also counseled at-risk youth through various local organizations. In her role as an educator, she teaches graduate courses in mental health counseling and supervises aspiring counselors on their journey toward professional licensure. Dr. Newsome's expertise encompasses a wide array of issues including combat and sexual trauma, challenges faced by military families in transition, and stress related to multicultural issues, such as race and gender. Additionally, she specializes in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, and significant life transitions—ranging from divorce and grief to career changes and relocation, which can lead to feelings of uncertainty or overwhelm. Her therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in a person-centered philosophy, recognizing the inherent strengths and unique qualities of each individual. Dr. Newsome views counseling as a collaborative endeavor, believing that through dedication and effort, individuals can overcome obstacles along their life journeys while discovering a sense of liberation and growth.
