Maternal and Infant Health Program

The Maternal and Infant Health Program (MIHP) in Mount Pleasant, MI, is dedicated to supporting Medicaid-eligible families with pregnant individuals and infants during their crucial first year of life. Our mission is to enhance health outcomes through personalized services including health education, emotional support, nutrition guidance, and parenting education, as well as assistance with transportation when necessary. Our compassionate team, comprised of a public health nurse, social worker, and registered dietitian, provides home and office visits to foster breastfeeding, promote healthy behaviors, and coordinate care with other providers. We strive to reduce mother and infant mortality rates, lower risks associated with smoking and substance use, and decrease instances of low birth weight by working closely with families to establish goals for healthy pregnancies and bonding. With a focus on ensuring regular medical care and immunization, MIHP is committed to connecting families with vital community resources, guiding them toward the delivery of healthy, full-term babies and fostering a supportive environment for their growth.
