The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Ruston, LA, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through our partnership with the Allegheny Mountain Institute, we provide an accessible, tuition-free program that empowers selected Fellows with comprehensive organic food system education. Our Fellows engage in hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm, focusing on pivotal initiatives such as growing and distributing diverse crops, running school community gardens, and enhancing food and ecological literacy within educational frameworks. Furthermore, they play a critical role in supporting farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs, while also collaborating with local organizations to increase access to healthy foods. This enriching experience culminates in a six-month immersive fellowship followed by a year of community service, ensuring that they can make a tangible impact in their communities through food assistance and education initiatives. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
