The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Opelousas, LA, empowers passionate individuals to become leaders in building a socially, environmentally, and economically just food system. This comprehensive program, sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, offers no tuition barriers, ensuring accessibility for all. Over six months, selected Fellows engage in hands-on, experiential learning at the Allegheny Farm, mastering organic food systems, diversified crop production, and community engagement strategies. They learn to implement educational initiatives for innovative health care, mentor future cohorts, and enhance food literacy in local schools. The fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year, where Fellows take their skills to collaborate with regional non-profits, fostering healthier communities through farmer's markets, community gardens, and enhanced access to nutritious food. Applications are accepted until March each year for the May to October fellowship period.
