The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in New Iberia, LA, is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates and educators for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. This unique fellowship, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, provides an immersive six-month program at the Allegheny Farm, where selected Fellows engage in hands-on organic food system education. Participants will work directly with local and regional partners to grow and distribute diverse crops, implement innovative health care educational sessions, maintain community gardens, and promote food and ecological literacy within schools. By supporting farmers markets and creating distribution channels that enhance access to nutritious foods, Fellows will also engage in vital community food coalition activities. The Fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year, where participants utilize their training alongside non-profit organizations, empowering them to effect meaningful change in the local food landscape. Applications are accepted until March for the experience that typically runs from May to October, fully accessible without tuition costs.
