The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Donaldsonville, LA, is dedicated to fostering a just food system by empowering individuals to become advocates and educators in sustainable practices. The program offers an immersive, six-month experiential learning opportunity at the Allegheny Farm, where selected Fellows receive comprehensive training in organic food systems without any tuition fees, ensuring accessibility for all. Throughout their fellowship, participants engage in community-driven projects such as cultivating diverse crops, conducting health-focused educational sessions, maintaining school gardens, and promoting food and ecological literacy in local schools. Additionally, Fellows support farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, enhancing access to healthy foods in the community. After their fellowship, participants embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to put their knowledge into practice and mentor the next generation of leaders in food systems. Applications are accepted until March for the program running from May to October each year.
