The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Independence, KS, by providing free USDA commodity foods to low-income households across the state. Our mission is to ensure that families receive the essential nutrition they need, and we deliver food shipments five to six times a year to local organizations for distribution. Each household can receive a variety of staple items such as canned vegetables, fruits, juices, meats, cereals, peanut butter, nonfat dry milk, and pasta, with shipments including a minimum of four and up to ten different food items. To access our services, individuals must apply in their home county, and together we strive to strengthen our community by addressing food insecurity with compassion and urgency.
