Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is dedicated to providing essential food assistance to low-income households in Hiawatha, KS, and throughout the state. Operated by the Kansas Department for Children and Families, TEFAP supplies an array of free USDA commodity foods designed to meet basic nutritional needs, including canned vegetables, fruits, juices, meats, cereals, peanut butter, nonfat dry milk, and pasta. With shipments occurring five to six times a year to partner organizations, we ensure that families receive a minimum of four to a maximum of ten food items per distribution. Individuals interested in receiving assistance must apply through their home county, allowing us to reach those who need it most with compassion and efficiency.
