Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) serves the needs of low-income households in Fort Scott, KS and throughout the state by providing essential USDA commodity foods at no cost. Dedicated to addressing food insecurity, TEFAP organizes five to six shipments of nutritious food each year to local organizations for distribution. Households benefit from a variety of staple items, including canned vegetables, fruits, juices, meats, cereals, peanut butter, nonfat dry milk, and pasta, ensuring access to wholesome meals. Each distribution offers a minimum of four and a maximum of ten food items per household, supporting the community's basic nutritional needs. To receive assistance, clients must apply through their home county, making it easy and accessible for those in need.
