The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Mount Vernon, IN, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates and educators for a just food system. This program provides a unique opportunity for selected Fellows to participate in a six-month immersive, hands-on training at the Allegheny Farm, where they engage in organic food education, community engagement, and agricultural practices that emphasize social, environmental, and economic justice. Without any tuition fees, we strive to enhance accessibility and empower participants through experiential learning. Throughout their Fellowship, participants will grow and distribute diverse crops, implement health-focused educational sessions, maintain community gardens, and promote food literacy in educational settings. They will also contribute to local farmers markets and develop channels to improve access to healthy foods, all while mentoring the next cohort of Fellows. The experience culminates in a Community Action Year, where Fellows apply their skills with regional non-profits, making a tangible impact in their communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
