Anu Spain

Anu Spain is a highly skilled licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of psychotherapy experience. She has earned dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Women’s Studies from Loyola University, Chicago. Anu's background includes seven years as a hospice and palliative care social worker at the Midwest Palliative and Hospice CareCenter (now Journeycare), where she provided compassionate support to individuals and families facing terminal and life-limiting illnesses. Additionally, she worked at Thrive Counseling Center in Oak Park for eight years, specializing in the therapy of older adults and facilitating individual and family therapy with adults, as well as initiating a grief and loss support group. Currently, Anu teaches core courses at the Dominican University’s Graduate School of Social Work. Her extensive expertise includes running a shelter program and counseling women escaping partner violence, always viewing therapy through an intersectional lens that acknowledges systemic issues. Drawing from Family Systems theories, Anu emphasizes a person-in-environment perspective, fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship that empowers clients to write and reshape their own life narratives. Her deep commitment to mindfulness-based, culturally sensitive, and relational approaches enriches her practice, enabling her to effectively address marital and premarital concerns, family conflict, and parenting challenges.
