The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Lake Zurich, IL is dedicated to cultivating future leaders who advocate for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. This transformative program empowers selected Fellows through hands-on education in organic farming at the picturesque Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, without charging tuition to ensure accessibility. Throughout the six-month residency, Fellows immerse themselves in diverse agricultural practices, engage in community gardening, and facilitate workshops that promote food and ecological literacy in local schools. They also support vital initiatives like farmers markets and direct-to-consumer programs, enhancing access to healthy food options for everyone. Following their training, these inspiring individuals contribute to their communities through a year of impactful service with regional non-profits, where they implement innovative solutions for sustainable food systems. Applications are welcomed until March each year, with experiences typically running from May to October.
