The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Kankakee, IL, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. By sponsoring, training, and empowering Fellows, we focus on socially, environmentally, and economically just practices in agriculture. Our Fellowship program offers comprehensive organic food system education at the Allegheny Farm Campus, free from tuition fees, to ensure accessibility for all. Through hands-on, experiential learning, selected Fellows engage in activities such as growing and distributing diverse crops, conducting educational health sessions, maintaining community gardens, and fostering food literacy in schools. Additionally, we encourage support for farmers markets, direct-to-consumer programs, and the development of distribution channels that enhance access to healthy foods. After an immersive six-month training period, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, where they apply their skills alongside local non-profit organizations, contributing to impactful food systems work within the community. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the Fellowship experience running from May to October.
