Valerie Kasten is a dedicated counselor with over 23 years of experience who believes that the most crucial element in counseling is the therapeutic relationship. She has created a safe and trusting environment where clients are encouraged to express their pain and heartache during their healing journey. Valerie often works alongside her miniature Australian Shepherd, Kippy, enhancing the therapeutic experience. Her approach integrates art, play, sand, and talk therapy, tailoring treatment plans with the most effective evidence-based modalities for each individual's needs. Recently, Valerie has completed training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, a method that has amazed her clients with the positive changes it has initiated in their lives. It is truly a privilege for her to assist children and teens as they navigate challenges that hinder their ability to reach their full potential. Valerie specializes in addressing the negative impacts of divorce, child abuse, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, self-injury, eating disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ADHD. Her offices feature a dedicated playroom, two rooms for expressive arts therapy, and a unique space for family counseling, making her practice stand out in Southern Illinois.
