The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, based in Buffalo Grove, IL, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of advocates for a just food system. Through comprehensive training and support, our Fellows engage in hands-on learning experiences at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, gaining vital skills in organic food systems. This program promotes equity by offering tuition-free education to ensure accessibility. During their six-month immersive experience, Fellows grow and distribute a variety of crops, lead educational initiatives in health care, maintain community gardens, and foster food literacy in educational settings. Additionally, they play a key role in supporting farmers' markets and creating access to healthy foods within local communities. After their fellowship, participants enter a Community Action Year, where they apply their training in partnership with regional non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March for the program running from May to October.
