The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Bourbonnais, IL is dedicated to fostering a new generation of advocates and educators committed to creating a food system that is just, sustainable, and accessible for all. This hands-on program provides selected Fellows with six months of immersive training at the Allegheny Farm, where they gain essential skills in organic food system education and community engagement. Fellows work collaboratively with local partners to grow a diverse array of crops, implement innovative health education, and maintain gardens that serve both schools and the wider community. By supporting farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, they help develop distribution channels that enhance access to healthy foods. The Fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year where attendees apply their knowledge through partnerships with regional non-profits, contributing to vital community food coalition activities. To promote inclusivity, AMI does not charge tuition, making this valuable experience accessible to all aspiring leaders in the food justice movement. Applications are welcomed annually until March, with the program running from May through October.
