Carly Tolbert is the founder of Kaftan Collective, an organization dedicated to embodying awareness as a means for communal healing among Black, Indigenous, and POC individuals. As a Clinical Social Worker and Therapist, she focuses on supporting parents in finding balance and connection with their children as well as with themselves. Parenting amidst systemic oppression often leads to feelings of stress, anxiety, shame, and isolation, and Carly aims to guide her clients in understanding the root causes of their pain while fostering resilience and resources that empower them to navigate their parenting journeys with compassion and love. In addition to her individual sessions, Carly leads parenting workshops tailored for Black mothers. These 12-week workshops delve into parent-child attachment, trauma, post-traumatic growth, and include practices designed for self-care and communal healing. As a Black woman and mother herself, Carly integrates her personal experiences with her professional training in infant-family mental health, creating groups that are intentionally designed with participants in mind. She recognizes that parents often carry substantial burdens for others, and she emphasizes the importance of nurturing connections that allow for shared care and support.
