Peggy Stewart

Dr. Peggy Stewart is a highly regarded Clinical Social Worker and Therapist with extensive expertise in medical and mental health settings. As a professor at the University of Southern California and a dedicated practitioner at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her work. Dr. Stewart has previously contributed her skills in Methadone Maintenance at the Veterans Administration and served as a psychiatric social worker at Metropolitan State Hospital. With a profound commitment to vulnerable populations, she worked for Adult Protective Services and the L.A. County Homeless Task Force in Skid Row. Her qualifications include certifications for providing bariatric clearances and specialized assistance in navigating the organ transplant process for both recipients and donors. Dr. Stewart is experienced in using various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Her approach to care focuses on empowering clients to achieve their highest quality of life through evidence-based interventions. She has been an integral part of the liver, intestinal, and cardio-thoracic transplant teams at UCLA Medical Center and has provided trauma and crisis intervention in the Emergency Department at UCLA for all age groups. Currently, Dr. Stewart is making a significant impact at Children's Hospital L.A., working in both the Emergency Department and inpatient units. For three years, she served as the Region 5 patient affairs representative for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), continually engaging with the transplant community through policy writing and reviewing. Additionally, Dr. Stewart contributes to the editorial board of Progress in Transplantation, where she reviews evidence-based research articles that enhance her clinical practice.
