Canada

Canada, celebrated for its cultural diversity and vast landscapes, faces both opportunities and challenges in mental health. With 41% of Canadians reporting a decline in mental well-being during the pandemic era, the strain on mental health resources in Canada has become evident. Economic disparities, particularly in housing and employment, play pivotal roles in exacerbating mental health challenges in Canada. Although the nation boasts a strong public healthcare system, regional differences affect access to mental health support in Canada, with rural communities experiencing notable service gaps. The cost of mental illness in Canada reached $75 billion in 2022, underscoring the economic burden and highlighting the urgent need for affordable mental health care in Canada. Despite these hurdles, Canada is committed to advancing mental health accessibility. Initiatives from federal and provincial levels seek to expand mental health resources in Canada and reduce stigma, promoting comprehensive care. Meanwhile, community programs enhance the provision of support, particularly for marginalized groups such as Indigenous peoples and youth. The increased reliance on family physicians, with only 23% feeling adequately prepared to handle mental health issues, indicates a pressing need for specialized services. Yet, the rise of e-mental health options and community-based programs offers hope for improved access to mental health services in Canada. Explore our directory for a thorough guide to navigating national and regional mental health resources, showcasing efforts to address mental health challenges in Canada while promoting wellness and inclusivity.

Hello, my name is Lianne and I look forward to connecting with you by chat therapy. Sometimes, the first step to feeling better is reaching out and starting to explore what may be holding you back from engaging in more self-compassion, self-confidence, and the ability to show up for yourself in a way that creates positive changes. I hope you are able to explore areas in your life you struggle to move through and gain more insight into what you truly desire for yourself. Feel free to share whatever feels comfortable for you and we can get the conversation started.

I have been working as Registered Clinical Therapist for 9 years in British Columbia, Canada. I run a private therapy practice and also work for a non-profit. I have worked with all ages and a variety of life concerns and challenges.

Firstly congratulate yourself on reaching out for support! This is such an important and usually scary first step. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, also the father of my children died by suicide. These traumas have led me to specialise in trauma. I am passionate about helping people find a way through the traumas we all experience in one form or another. I believe that we can learn to really live instead of simply survive. Having raised six children I am also practical and realistic. Together we can find a way forward for you that incorporates changes but will not feel overwhelming. I also have a lot of experience with caring for aging parents. I look forward to spending time getting to know and support you.
