Why being a listener is life-changing

IvyRainGabriel April 23rd, 2015

I get really happy when I can help people feel better.

Does anyone else smile randomly while they're talking to members, as if your smile could go through the screen and reach them like a process of osmosis? :3

Being a listener has been a life-changing thing for me.

Prior to joining 7 Cups I was arrogant and judgemental.

Listening to people from different parts of the world, who have varied culture, from different age-group I realized how we are all similar to each other. All we need is love and kindness.

I started working on my personal relationships and they improved dramatically. Most of the problems we face everyday is because we barely listen to what the other person is trying to convey.

I have become a lot patient, calm and respectful. And the feeling that I'm helping someone to live a better day is incomparable.

I wrote a poem which pretty much sums up what I feel

You and I, is me.

How I often felt like an outcast
How I often felt my feelings are unique
How I often felt nobody would understand
All I thought could be done
Was to bury them deep inside and pretend to live like others

That's before I knew you
You are everyone around me
You are my mother, the pizza delivery guy
You are the kid around the street, you are the retired old man, breathing his last breath.

I learnt how we all need the basic three
Peace, Love, Wisdom
I understood how we all have the same insecurities
I understood how we all try to be the same
But hardly we connect

Now I know
That you and I are same
You are a reflection of me
Everything around me is me
I make someone happy, I feel happy
I make someone sad, I feel sad
I have a sense of belonging now.
Now I know
You are I, is me.

I see the world differently now. I'm very much thankful to the community for the life changing experience.
