Newbie looking for advice

mrssneaky June 19th, 2017

I just worked up the courage today to finally get an appointment scheduled to see someone(not sure if they're going to put me with a therapist or physciatrist) but the appointment itself isn't until September. Would it be a good idea to write up some notes of what I'm feeling so that they may be able to narrow down my diagnosis faster? I just have a feeling that I'm going to freeze up when I try verbally telling them these things. Thanks a bunch!

@mrssneaky,

i would definitely try to write up where you are in your personal journey or even try journaling daily. i have often left appointments and later regret not telling them everything i wanted to say. sometimes i was so ashamed of what was bothering me i couldnt even say it out loud. sometimes it takes so long to even get an appointment or a follow up so it would be a great idea to make sure you go in prepared and thoughtful of what your goals are. remember that that the more honest you are with your clinician and yourself the more likely it is you will get the help you need and want. hope this helps.

Yes! Especially if you feel that you won't be able to get the words out. Similar to public speaking, it's easier to have note cards in front of you, rather than freeze up and forget what you're going to say. Keep a notepad or a note in your phone, and every time something happens that makes you feel a certain way, write it down. Kind of like a journal. Then show them this journal or read it to them if you're not comfortable. I'm sure it will help you and be worth it.

@mrssneaky Have you looked into assessment tools online? having a journal helps, and try to implement a self care regimen to see if it makes difference, not eyour diet and sleep patterns too

Looking into that now that you mentioned it.
