What do y'all do when a thought is stuck in your head

Sometimes my mind makes itself anxious by making up worse endings to certain scenarios that happend or will happen to me or embarrassing moments from previous years and I don't want to think about anything when that's happens but it's very hard for me to get over those thoughts.

@M111A aww sweetie I know what that's like🙁 the best things to do with thoughts, is write them down here it's best to get it off your chest, and it's and I nice to know your being heard ❤ if you find you can't write it all out easily, perhaps try in a creative way, poems art etc. Gives you a giant tiny hug ❤❤❤ I hope your ok

That used to happen a lot to me. Until I learnt that there is a pattern before the thought gets overwhelming. In my case the first few negative thoughts would come one by one then suddenly flow automatically. Once I noticed this pattern I was able to check myself from the first few negative thoughts by talking to myself sometimes out loud if I was alone. I would ask myself...


1) Is this thought harmful or helpful to you?

Everytime it was hurtful


2) Are you in control of your thoughts.

Everytime the answer was yes


But the second question I could only ask myself BEFORE the flood of automatic negative thoughts happened. It took a lot of practice.


3) Can you change your thoughts?

Everytime the answer was yes.
