If you like anime, Carol and Tuesday is about the new music industry on a martian colony. It talks a lot about AI and politics with a side of abuse, which might be a little triggering, but all the artists are indie/smaller musicians with unique styles and it's a super diverse group. And don't worry, all the music is in english, subbed or dubbed. I really like Madison McFarrin, they have a really etherial vibe.

I'm also a big fan of classic rock. You can't go wrong with the Cranberries, Queen, or ABBA, but those are staples. I'm a huge David Bowie fan, and would recomend the albums "Low", "Hunky Dory", and "The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". There's also The Smiths. They're a queer group from around the same time. Their music has a lot of lgbt+ "themes" due to the legan greyness of it at the time. Talking Head is also an amazing rock band. I recommend "Road to Nowhere" and "Once in a Lifetime". Not too far away from them is Fleetwood Mac. If you want to get a little more esoteric, I love King Crimson and Gentle Giant.

If you're looking for some emotional music, Cavetown will always be my #1. He uses themes from a 2000's trauma childhood (relatable) and uses them to explain the weird feelings that come as a consequence of growing up in depression. You can look at his album (it's technically 5 EPs, each with a different colab) Animal Kingdom for some similar featured artists to listen to. On that album, I really like "Noise in my Head" from Ash, and Shells has a good Frank Ocean cover. I also recommend listening to "This Is Home" from 2015, and his album Sleepyhead. Trigger warnings for a few of his songs, I avoid Sharpener and Cereal for triggers of sh and medical. If you like his stuff, I also recommend Tessa Violet, Lovejoy, The Crane Wives, Crumb, and Peach Pit

If you want something a little more like pop, I would personally start with Bowie and work my way in that direction. Daft Punk is really cool and unique. I love Discovery, but I recommend watching the anime movie that goes with it called Interstella 5555. There's usually a recording on youtube that starts with a black and white recording of a person speaking an asian language and talking about a dream he had as a kid. Then I would move towards Gorillaz. Plastic Beach is a good album, and it has Snoop Dogg in the titular track. After him, I would recomend Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Just know that all of their music is either about southern CA, or doing drugs in southern CA. I love Miley Cyrus, "Unholy" and her cover of "Heart of Glass" are some bangers. Plus she was partially raised by Dolly Parton, which makes her all the better. I like Mitski and Beau for some more women artists. I think Beau is a lesbian, but that's only from subtext. You can't go wrong with Rufus Wainwright, his discography is immense and his sound changes all the time while remaining recognizable. Dry The River has admittedly one good album, but it really helped me through some of my religious household stuff (christian, midwestern). Rex Orange County is great too. I love his songs "Lovin' is Easy", "Best Friend", "Sunflower", and "Happiness". Two Door Cinema Club has a cool sound. There's always Panic! at the Disco, Fallout Boy, Death Cab for Cutie, and My Chemical Romance, if you haven't listened to them yet.

I also would totally recommend watching Steven Universe! The show has some amazing music, and if memory serves, it's the first cartoon aired on TV that was written and directed by a woman (her gender is less than binary). The characters grow in so many healthy ways and they make music about their issues and a lot of it is good enough to listen to outside of the show. "What Can I Do (For You)", "Here Comes a Thought", "Escapism", "Comet", "Working Dead" "G-G-G-Ghost", "I'd Rather Be Me (With You)"... This show is great, relateable, and beautiful, in all aspects of the word. Just remember that the original audience was kids, so the first season might have a few bumps till it settles in. I think "Giant Woman" is where the show starts to actually get concrete.

All in all, there's a lot of music out there. Try to diversify your artists, and try to stay away from cornering yourself in your algorithm. If things get stale, try to look for new music by going to the end of your playlists and listening to the recommended music, or search for a feeling or vibe you're interested in. Just be aware, Spotify has been trying to shove AI music down everyones throats lately so check your artists before you add them to your playlists! I hope this helps!
