Hello Everyone!

One of the reasons I decided to join this was because of my own lack of social skills. It's very hard for me to open up and express myself because of my social anxiety and I'm looking for anyone that can relate and possibly talk to that understands. I have a hard time making friends and forming connections because of my fear to do so and I'm searching for people that understand.

Hi Yanna! Welcome to the community! Social anxiety can definitely be difficult to deal with and it can take time and concerted efforts to work over it. Hoping you'll overcome it and that we'll be able to help!

@yanna363

Hi, Yanna.

I can see your photo so I know you are much younger than me but I might be of some small help. I spent my young life living in books and my mid life raising children. I didn't speak at work if I didn't have to and chose jobs that kept me away from people as much as possible. I finally decided I had enough of hiding and always feeling alone. I joined MeetUp and met many wonderful people there. It was an experiment of sorts. It was an easy place to find people gathering specifically to meet friends. I know there are plenty of groups with young people, sorted by age group, or by interests, and location. My biggest mistake there was gathering in groups that looked fun, i.e. popular, like in school, when it was much better to choose by interests. I now feel comfortable in almost any group, most especially because I recognize that same scared look on someone else's face and will introduce myself to them and then introduce them to others. They feel welcomed, and each time, I meet a new friend.

That's how I am now. I work at a job where it's just me working alone and avoid as much interaction with customers or coworkers as much as I can but in tired of that. I wanna be myself, I wanna feel free without thinking someone is gonna judge me or think im weird. It's hard but I'm trying bit by bit. I remember when I couldn't even work because my anxiety was so bad but now I give myself props for even having a job. But that's a great idea that you have, that's something I could see myself doing to see if it helps.

@yanna363 Hi there, we're glad you decided to join this 7 Cups! It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable and open up about your struggles, especially when it comes to social anxiety. It can definitely be tough to form connections and make friends when anxiety gets in the way. We're here to listen and support you!

What qualities or values do you look for in a friend or connection?

Thanks!

And the type of friend I would like to have is just someone who doesn't judge me, and someone I can talk to about anything without having fear of judgement. It's hard for me to trust anyone so having trust enough to also be vulnerable would make a good friend to me.

I am not that far from you dear. Just crawl before walking. We can talk if you like to. Baby steps first and through time it'll get easier.
