PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Ciena March 31st, 2017

Hi,

We all had a lot of life experience. As I said in my profil, I had more than my share. It helps me a lot to understand some of the members problems but my question is, when you find a member that has a problem and is persuaded he can't deal with it but you had Is it ok WITHOUT GIVING ADVICES to give some cheering and telling that you have overcame it so there is a solution ? For example I had a member who was really feeling bad because she was bullied in school because of her weight. I had, a lot. But I'm an adult now and have a good life. She thinks her life is over because of that. Is it ok to share that I've been in her situation and it will pass or not ?

@Ciena

I find that sometimes sharing a personal story really helps to bring comfort to a member that is going through a similar experience in life, It also opens up the chat to be much more personable and comfortable, which will let them open up further and potentially find some solace in their current circumstances

I feel that giving advice and sharing personal experiences are completely different. Everyone is different so the solution you had for your experience may not work for this person but it can be very comforting to know that someone else has been in your situation and was able to pull through it. It can be very motivating xx

I think as long as you're not actually telling them what to do persay advice then yes you can motivate them by telling them how you overcame that challenge
