My great grandfather had PTSD after the war and I'm worried that his mental health issues might be with me too. Not specifically PTSD but other issues. And I feel so awful for him, he hanged himself when my grandfather was TEN years old. He killed himself. He killed himself. He killed himself. The pain was that awful... Can anyone tell me what it would have felt like for him??

Gosh @muteTheVoices77. Your grandfather must have gone through lots of emotional and mental anguish. He was still a child when the incident happened. It is always traumatic for a child to lose a parent and in this case , he lost him to suicide. The pain and the grief must have been doubled cause lots of people those days do not address suicide and some choose to suppress or hush it up. Your grandfather could have experienced fear, anxiety, anger, embarassement and disappointment . His self confidence and self esteem could have been badly effected . So naturally , his responses and thinking pattern could have been altered to help him cope with life.Your grandfather could have developed his own coping mechanism if nobody in his family had helped him or spoken to him about the trauma. One very important thing for each and everyone of us to understand is : Suicide is not inherited neither does not runs in the family
