Severe Anxiety coping skills?

Nat20dicegoblin August 28th, 2023

Hi, I'm not gonna go into detail, but I'd like your best coping skills. What do you do to help cope with trauma, when it's a difficult day/week/month? I'd like to be able to maybe incorporate them into my own life

@Nat20dicegoblin Sorry to hear you are going through that friend! You’re brave and vulnerable for posting and looking for help from others.

Here are a couple places I’ve started that might be good to read up on:

Look up some breathing exercises!!!! My favorite is the box or inverted triangle breath. You can find some videos on youtube that are visualize it if it helps too. If you sit down and focus on filling your lungs as much as possible and as deeply as possible, it will take over all the crazy scrambling thoughts.

CBT and ACT resources are all over online to be able to start changing your thoughts! There’s lots of worksheets and workbooks online or through online libraries you can work through little by little to take care of yourself. A lot of these exercises can turn into great tools for relief.

Guided meditation/yoga CHANGED my life! I do yoga three times a week and every time I feel super overwhelmed, I can go back to my meditation and take care of my feelings. As soon as I step on the mat, I can put everything that isn’t in the present moment down! It took me years to be able to do that, but it’s like a muscle- if you practice it little by little every day, it’ll get stronger and stronger until it’s calming for you. I still struggle sometimes (today I was worrying about a work meeting that was after practice and kept having to redirect myself), but it’s a great tool now. In general, being able to get that rush of endorphins from exercise helps me feel accomplished and it fights the awful stress biologically.

Good luck friend! I know you’ll find a combination of things that work personally for you! I highly suggest therapy as well if you can swing it- seeing someone can help you see your problems in a new light.
